Acupuncture is rooted in traditional East Asian medicine

The goal of traditional East Asian medicine is to create balance in our bodies. Disharmony can occur when any aspect of our being is over- or underutilized. Stress, sleep patterns, and other information point to the sources of what we refer to as a person’s “pattern of disharmony.” Understanding the root of the problem helps us treat symptoms with Manhattan acupuncture, bodywork, lifestyle changes (including exercise), new dietary guidelines, and/or herbal therapy.

The Conundrum of the Cabana Crowd: Sunscreen – Store Bought vs Homemade

By |Jun 26, 2019|Categories: Families, General Health, Wellness|

I love the sun. I feel better when it’s warm and the sun is beating down on me – I’m like my father who says he’s “solar powered”. I’ve been bad over the years about putting on sunscreen. I have sun damage on my face, hyper pigmentation and I get annual scoldings from my dermatologist. Even though I have started to be better about applying, I still feel as though I want the direct rays for the Vitamin D and also the chemicals listed on the bottles are horrifying.

The iliopsoas muscle (commonly called ‘psoas,’ pronounced SO-as) is an often-overlooked muscle involved in conditions of lower back and hip pain.  It can be tricky to diagnose problems in the psoas muscle due to the fact that it serves many functions, often causes pain, and is relatively inaccessible.  It is the only muscle that attaches the spine to the legs, and it is the deepest of the core muscles.

Acupuncture can be an incredible support on the path to quitting for good. The protocol for smoking cessation requires at least 3 sessions per week to manage cravings and other issues that may come up during the detoxification process (anxiety, insomnia, increase or decrease in appetite).
